Man Utd fans march on Woodward’s home and post death threat video message

January 29 – Police are investigating an attack on the home of Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward by a group chanting that he was “going to die”.

A section of United fans have long blamed Woodward for the current running of the club and a video posted on social media showed the group gathered outside his house throwing red flares over the gate.

A message at the bottom of the video read: ‘Ed Woodward’s gonna die’

British media reported that neither Woodward nor his family were home.

“Thankfully no-one was harmed, and officers will liaise with security officials over the coming days to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and identify those involved,” said a police statement.

United, who have won the English league title a record 20 times but not since 2013, are currently fifth in the Premier League, 33 points adrift of leaders and arch-rivals Liverpool.

At recent games, United fans have protested, sometimes hugely offensively, against the regime of Woodward and the club’s American owners, the Glazer family.

In response to he latest incident, United said any fan found guilty of a crime or of trespassing at the property would be banned for life.

“We know that the football world will unite behind us as we work with Greater Manchester Police to identify the perpetrators of this unwarranted attack,” the club said in a statement.
