March 18 – Liverpool has the most valuable squad by transfer value at €1.4 billion, according to a ranking by the CIES Football Observatory.
The runaway Premier League leaders are followed in the ranking by Manchester City with a squad value of €1.36 billion. Both outrank Spanish giants Barcelona (€1.17 billion )and Real Madrid (€1.1 billion).
The ranking looks at the five major European leagues and the transfer values of players under contract. Taking into account the 20 players per club with the highest values.
Eight clubs from the English Premier League make the top 20. The report authors highlight Chelsea who rank fifth with a squad value of €1.008 billion, just ahead of Manchester United. “The valuation of Chelsea has strongly increased thanks to the outbreak of many young talents following the transfer ban imposed by FIFA on the London club,” says the report.
