SIGA Strives 10: Integrity body reaffirms reform agenda with US presidential body

April 15 – In a joint statement from SIGA (the Sports Integrity Global Alliance) and the President’s Council on Sport, Fitness and Nutrition (PCSFN) based in the United States, the  two bodies have reaffirmed their cooperation and commitment to a sports integrity reform agenda.

SIGA and the PCSFN first entered into a Memorandum of Understanding on 16 January 2019. The new statement reiterates that original commitment and comes as part of the SIGA Strives initiative, a global campaign comprising 30 boosting measures and initiatives to keep sports integrity issues current and updated

In a joint statement by Kristina Harder, executive director of the PCSFN and Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, CEO of SIGA and SIGA AMERICA the bodies “confirm our commitment to advancing the highest integrity standards in sports in the United States and around the world.

“While we are all addressing critical issues pertaining to the COVID-19 crisis, we are ever-mindful of the positive role sport plays in inspiring communities to work together for the common good. While much of this work is currently virtual in nature, there is much we can do together to keep sport and our communities strong, healthy, supported and working together.”

The statement list key initiatives they co-operate on, including: the PCSFN National Youth Sports Strategy; SIGA Strives Action Plan; Information and education campaigns related to awareness raising, prevention and “morale building” in light of the Coronavirus/ COVID-19, focusing on youth sport and fitness; Development of the SIGA Universal Standards on Youth Development & Child Protection; and SIGA Thought Leadership Initiatives, such as:

  • White Paper on Sport Integrity
  • SIGA – UNESCO “The Business Case for Sport Integrity”;
  • Global mentorship programme on female leadership in sport
  • Joint communications initiatives, including SIGA’s Sport Integrity bulletin
