Celtic unveil JD as retail partner just in time as on-line demand crashes club’s online shop

July 6 – Celtic’s new Adidas kit is already proving a hit with fans as the volume of pre-orders for the new training wear on the club’s online shop last Friday served to crash the site’s servers.

The store’s official Twitter account said: “We’ve had high traffic before 8am, trying to get sneak peaks.

“Having an issue getting every product ready to go for you guys. IT working on it ASAP and we will let you know as soon as we’re ready!”

An official club release later in the day trumpeted the web crash as proof that Glasgow is green and white, saying: “Our online store is dealing with unprecedented numbers on the site, as sales continue to rise, and we want to say a massive thank you for your support!

“Time and time again, you prove that Glasgow really is green and white, and as we enter the adidas x Celtic FC era we just keep getting bigger.”

In March Scottish champions Celtic announced Adidas as their new kit supplier – replacing New Balance – in a reported £30 million five-year kit deal they reckon is a record in Scottish sport.

While the online demand for the training wear kit broke records, and the club’s online shop, Celtic have also announced retailer JD Sports as the club’s official retail partner.

Celtic training wear and kit will be made available in JD stores worldwide. Adidas’ relationship with JD has enabled the retailer to expand into 19 countries with stores.

JD Group Executive Chairman, Peter Cowgill, said: “We are delighted to partner with Celtic as they enter such an exciting season after winning the ninth consecutive league title. Celtic is an iconic club with an incredible support base; both the club’s and JD’s ambition for the future remains as strong as ever, which is something JD are proud to be associated with. We are extremely excited to launch a fantastic range of new kits in partnership with adidas and the club.”

The new home kit will be revealed this week and will be available to pre-order from Friday July 10, Celtic website permitting. Kits and training wear will be available to buy from August 6 in Celtic FC and JD stores, as well as online.
