Saudi’s Mosaad stays committed to Châteauroux despite relegation threat

March 8 – Saudi prince Abdullah bin Mosaad (pictured) is closing in on the acquisition of French Ligue 2 club Châteauroux, despite the club’s imminent relegation to the third division.

Châteauroux have endured a torrid season, having won just four matches out of 28 this season. They sit at the foot of the table on 18 points, six behind Chambly. The club are starring at relegation to the National, the third tier of French club football, but for months a takeover by the Saudi prince has been rumored.

AFP now reports that bin Mosaad will soon conclude a takeover. The Saudi prince is behind United World, the holding that groups his football interests. United World ’s portfolio includes Premier League club Sheffield United, Belgian top flight outfit Beerschot, Kerala United from India and Al Hilal United form the United Arab Emirates.

“Our project is not to buy clubs in the 3rd division, we buy in the 1st division, Sheffield United was the exception, and now Châteauroux is an exception,” Mosaad told the AFP. “We understand the possibility of relegation, but we have the possibility of being promoted quickly, and in a few years will be at the highest level in France.”
