EPL briefs matchday stewards on spotting racism as new rules and fan bans come into play

August 11 – Racist fans will be banned from all English Premier League fans grounds under new measures announced ahead of the 2021-22 season that gets under way this weekend.

New sanctions are to be added to the ‘No Room for Racism’ campaign, according to The Guardian newspaper.

Matchday stewards will be trained to identify discriminatory behaviour while a video asking supporters not to boo the taking of the knee before matches this season is to be released this week.

The developments came as Twitter said it had removed 1,622 messages containing racist language from its platform in the 24 hours during and after the Euro final between England and Italy. It also claimed that the greatest number of abusive messages came from the UK.
