De Bruyne, Jorghino and Kante vie for UEFA player of year award

August 23 – Three Premier League players make up the shortlist for the UEFA Men’s player of the year awards, while three Barcelona players make up the Women’s shortlist.

Chelsea’s Italian and French midfield superstars – Jorghino and N’Golo Kante – face off against Man City and Belgium’s Kevin de Bruyne. The winner will be announced August 26 at the Champions League group draw in Turkey.

Two Spanish national team players – Jennifer Hermoso and Alexia Putellas – are up against Barcelona teammate Lieke Martens from the Netherlands for the women’s award. Barcelona broke Olympique Lyonnias’ vice-like grip over the women’s Champions League last season.

The final three nominations for the men’s coach of the year are Man City’s Pep Guardiola, Italy’s Roberto Mancini and Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel.

The Women’s coach of the year final nominations are Lluís Cortés (Barcelona), Peter Gerhardsson (Sweden), and Emma HAYES (Chelsea).

UEFA will also unveil the winners of their positional awards – goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward – for the 2020/21 men’s and women’s club season.
