Man City’s Mendy again refused bail on rape charges, trial set for Jan 24

October 12 – Benjamin Mendy, Manchester City’s French defender who is accused of multiple charges of rape, has been refused bail for a third time.

Mendy is currently being held in custody at Altcourse prison in Liverpool while he awaits trail that is set for 24 January 2022.

He is accused of with three counts of rape relating to an incident in October 2020 and with the sexual assault of a woman in early January this year. He is also charged with raping a woman in August. One of the three complainants is under the age of 18.

The attacks on the women allegedly took place at his home in Prestbury, Cheshire.

Mendy, 27, who was not at Chester Crown Court for the hearing, and has yet to enter pleas to the charges.

Mendy was arrested in August and has been in custody for about seven weeks.

Manchester City spent a reported £49.2 million signing the left-back player from Monaco in 2017. He featured in City’s 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on the opening weekend of the season.
