Man City’s Mendy hit with two more charges of rape

November 18 – Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has appeared in court to face two further charges of rape.

Mendy appeared via video link in court and remains in custody. He is now facing six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. In August, he was charged with four counts of rape and one of sexual assault. All counts allegedly took place between October 2020 and August 2021.

Mendy appeared alongside co-defendant, Louis Saha Matturie, who has also been charged with two additional counts of rape and one of sexual assault.

The France international has played for last season’s Premier League champions Manchester City since 2017, when he joined from Monaco for a reported £52 million. He was suspended by the club after being charged by police, pending an investigation.

Both men are due to go on trial on 24 January 2022.
