Man Utd top 90,000 on Twitter for week, while on FB Barca and Real hit 100m mark

April 4 – Manchester United added 90,000 new twitter followers last week, a high mark even for their impressive weekly growth statistics.

It has been a big week for social media landmarks with both Barcelona and Real Madrid breaking through the 100 million Facebook likes mark. In comparision Manchester United are at about 75 million Facebook likes, but Premier league Facebook growth in the UK is led by Manchester City who have been growing at about 125,000 new likes a week.

On Twitter Man Utd have 10.6 million followers, moer than a million ahead of nearest rivals Arsenal who are now being eclipsed in the weekly growth chart by a resurgent Chelsea. Last week Chelsea added 60,000 new followers while Arsenal managed 49,100.

Man Uts’s 90,000 new followers also gave them the largest growth rate this week at 0.85%. However, they are still lying in 5th pace in the EPL, 5 points behind Man City whose twitter activity now totals an impressive 99,900 tweets, thought their total followers at 4.1 million is less than half their cross city rivals.

However king of the tweets this week goes to Hull City with 282. The club is still in the relegation zone but after celebrating their victory over West Ham, they are now only one point off Swansea. After an impressive 2-1 win over Chelsea, Crystal Palace were second most active this week with 261 tweets.

Overall tweet activity doubled this week up to 3,600 tweets from 1,900 tweets the previous week. This corresponds with a total of 320,000 new followers to Premier League clubs overall, up from 269,000 the previous week.
