Botev Plovdiv joins with BTCPayServer to allow bitcoin payments in-stadia and club shop

November 1 – Bulgaria’s Botev Plovdiv have become the first Bulgarian club to accept Bitcoin payments, saying they are partnering with the world leader in accepting bitcoin payments, BTCPayServer.

Botev Plovdiv fans will be able to pay with Bitcoin in the club shop, as well as in the catering points around the Hristo Botev stadium. Anyone choosing to pay with the virtual currency will get a 10% discount in November.

The club said fans will soon be able to buy match tickets with bitcoin.

“On the eve of the city derby against Lokomotiv, Botev (Plovdiv) announces two key innovations, underscoring the club’s ambitions for a future full of innovations fueling success on the pitch. The club unveils its revamped website. The new platform is not just an information portal, but the modern face of the club to fans and the global football community.

“In addition, today, exactly 15 years after Satoshi Nakamoto introduced the revolutionary Bitcoin technology for cheap, fast, secure and limitless payments, Botev (Plovdiv) enables its supporters and the general public to use Bitcoin in the club’s fan shops, as well as at the catering points located in the central stand of the Hristo Botev Stadium during Canaries matches. Soon this option will also be available for buying tickets as well as in the club’s online store”, said a club statement.

“We are excited about this technology, which is creating new opportunities and has the potential to become an integral part of our lives, just as it happened with the Internet.” said Botev Plovdiv owner Anton Zingarevich.

“Encouraging local adoption of Bitcoin has been our main focus this year. Seeing our open source project working for local communities is extremely satisfying. We will continue to support such transformative endeavors,” said Nicolas Dorier of BTCPayServer.

The payments are made using the technical support of CryptoDesk.bg and Bitcoin POS terminals from BitcoinizePOS.

“By implementing these innovations along with a number of other educational and socially responsible initiatives, Botev (Plovdiv) is strengthening its position as a leader striving to modernize and popularize the game of football. The club’s commitment to progress promises exciting times for its fans, the people of Plovdiv, as well as the wider football community,” said the club.
