October 9 – Serie A giants AC Milan have confirmed the renewal of their partnership with Socios.com, the blockchain-based fan engagement platform.
Socios.com is part of the Chiliz group, creating the $ACM Fan Token, which has reached individuals in 119 countries, offering over 850 supporter exclusive perks like match tickets, memorabilia, and behind-the-scenes access.
This season sees the launch of a Fan Token Gated Content Series, which promises to give supporters even more tools to connect with the club by granting token holders exclusive live events, interviews, quizzes, and virtual meet-and-greets.
AC Milan’s Chief Commercial Officer Maikel Oettle said, “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Socios.com. Over the years, we have implemented numerous projects to engage our growing fanbase, and this renewal reinforces our shared goal of expanding digital interaction with supporters.”
Similarly, Socios.com CEO Alexandre Dreyfus highlights how Web3 tech is reshaping fan-club relations, noting, “The Fan Token Gated Content Series places the $ACM Token at the centre of an evolving engagement ecosystem.”
While this demonstrates AC Milan’s commitment to digital innovation, it also opens up familiar debates about the real value and potential pitfalls of blockchain in football.
The Socios model isn’t for everyone, and not all relationships have been as rosy as the partnership with the Rossoneri. Other clubs have faced questions about token value stability, transparency, and whether this digital fan engagement genuinely enhances the supporter experience or is simply another device to maximse fan loyalty for profit.
AC Milan’s use of Socios.com for fan engagement does provide the blockchain industry legitimacy, and their fans have been engaged in designing anniversary kits and naming stands. If the platform continues to grow and finds other clubs with the weight and history of Milan, the future of digital fan interaction will be here to stay.
