September 19 – Rwandan police have opened an investigation into two former federation employees on suspicion of embezzlement, forgery and corruption.
Adolphe ‘Camarade’ Kalisa and Eric Tuyisenge were arrested on Tuesday and were being held at at Remera and Kicukiro police stations.
Kalisa was Secretary General of the federation from August 2023 until the executive committee completed its term in July. His case file has already been forwarded to the National Public Prosecution Authority.
Local reports say rumours linking him to the embezzlement of Rwandan federation (FERWAFA) money had been circulating even while he was in office.
Eric Tuyisenge was the national team kit manager and less is understood about the allegations against him.
This is not the first time FERWAFA officials have been arrested. In 2018 secretary general Francois Regis Uwayezu and commissioner for competitions Eric Ruhamiriza were under investigation after being accused of attempting to bribe match officials.
Namibian referee Jackson Pavaza said they attempted to bribe him and his fellow referees ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Ivory Coast in Kigali.
FERWAFA denied the allegations saying that they were the result of a miscommunication between the federation and the officials.
