December 16 – Aston Villa have added another strand to their commercial operation with the launch of a new partnership with global headwear brand New Era, unveiling an exclusive licensed collection that pushes the club further into the lifestyle and fashion space.
The agreement brings Villa into New Era’s expanding roster of European football partners as the brand continues to grow its presence in the English game. For clubs, these kinds of collaborations have become an increasingly important way of broadening revenues and reaching supporters who engage with football culture off the pitch as much as on it.
The collection is built around New Era’s familiar headwear lines, including the 9FORTY, 9TWENTY, TRUCKER and knit beanies, all finished in Aston Villa’s claret and blue. There is also a wider mix of women’s styles and designs linked to the club’s away and third kits, pointing to a more seasonal, fashion-led approach to football retail rather than a purely matchday focus.
The deal reflects the growing role of licensed lifestyle merchandise in club strategies. As margins tighten around replica kits and performance wear, in theory partnerships with established apparel brands offer clubs a way to extend their brand into everyday wear, particularly for younger fans and international audiences – without them having to commit to a $100 price tag.
One of the centrepieces of the launch is a limited-edition version of New Era’s iconic 59FIFTY fitted cap. The design features Aston Villa’s original 1880 crest and references the club’s founding in 1874, leaning heavily into heritage as a way of adding depth and premium appeal to the product.
That use of history mirrors a wider trend across football, where clubs are increasingly drawing on their past to create merchandise that speaks to collectors and fans who see teams as cultural institutions, not just sporting ones.
On the pitch, Villa’s momentum shows no sign of slowing. Unai Emery’s side head into the festive period as one of the league’s form teams, sitting just three points off leaders Arsenal and firmly in the title conversation.
