December 22 – The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) has launched its BFU Academy, a landmark strategic project designed to revolutionise the development of young talent in Bulgarian football through a modern, centralised, and long-term training model.
Scheduled to debut in the 2026/27 season, the academy aims to integrate elite athletic training, formal education, and personal growth into a single unified system.
Under this new model, selected athletes will live, study, and train together as a single academic class. This ‘full-board’ approach ensures a perfectly coordinated schedule between the classroom and the pitch, providing players with optimal conditions for recovery and academic success.
The training methodology will align with the latest European standards and FIFA/UEFA requirements. To ensure world-class implementation, a FIFA technical expert will join the BFU team to work with the players daily.
The academy will be supported by a comprehensive professional staff, including: head coaches and goalkeeper specialists, strength and conditioning coaches, data analysts and sports psychologists, medical staff, physiotherapists and nutritionists.
Selection for the academy will be conducted through nationwide scouting trials. These “castings” will utilize transparent technical, physical, and psycho-social criteria, ensuring that every talented child in Bulgaria has an equal opportunity to develop in an elite environment.
The creation of the BFU Academy represents a vital step toward building a sustainable model for youth football.
