January 8 – Minnesota United head coach Eric Ramsey, who joined the MLS club in February 2024, looks set to be returning to England to take charge of Championship club West Bromwich Albion.
Ramsey, just 34 years old, joined Minnesota from Manchester United having previously been on the coaching staff at Chelsea. Under his management the Loons achieved a club-record 58 points in the 2025 season.
Ramsey is a rising star in coaching circles and has been the number one target for a number of clubs as his success with Minnesota grew attention. Southampton, who like West Brom, have Premier League ambitions, failed to lure him back to England following their relegation to the Championship last season.
Ramsey has been supported at Minnesota by Kiwi Cameron Knowles, who has a long career in the MLS, and Dennis Lawrence, who joined from Coventry and has a first team coaching career including Wigan and Everton, as well as the Trinidad and Tobago national team. Knowles is the favourite to replace Ramsey if he leaves but key to maintaining continuity will be keeping the vast experience and knowledge of Lawrence.
Ramsey’s departure would not be the only with four key players having already left before the start of the 2026 season.
Dane St. Clair, the reigning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, left for Inter Miami; Robin Lod, Minnesota’s all-time leading scorer, has joined Chicago; Hassani Dotson moved to Seattle; and Joseph Rosales was traded to Austin FC.
