April 8 – The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) and Esports Bulgaria have signed a strategic partnership agreement that marks the federation’s first steps into the video gaming and esports world.
The agreement covers a wide range of joint initiatives targeting young audiences, including the organisation of official virtual football tournaments under the auspices of the BFU with the support of Esports Bulgaria, as well as the development of educational programmes linking real and virtual football.
Key priorities of the collaboration include attracting new participants and fans through digital experiences and building a sustainable esports ecosystem in Bulgaria.
Both organisations said they share the understanding that football can serve as a bridge between traditional sports and the digital world. A special emphasis is placed on youth initiatives designed to draw the gaming community into organized football.
“The signing of this strategic partnership with Esports Bulgaria is an important step towards modernizing the way we communicate with young people,” said BFU Executive Director Andrey Petrov.
He added that he believes virtual football and esports can serve as a natural bridge to the real pitch – attracting new fans, discovering talents, and creating sustainable interest in organized football.
