eFootball.Pro lines up second season on PES with new clubs and an amateur Open

August 22 – The eFootball.Pro League is set to expand with more clubs as well as introducing a competition for amateur players – the eFootball.Open – that will see a rebranding of the PES League.

UEFA launches eEURO on Konami’s PES. Final timed with Euro 2020 Wembley finale

August 21 – With FIFA have just announced record breaking numbers for the finals of its eWorld Cup, UEFA has announced the launch of UEFA eEURO 2020, a national-team eFootball tournament that will see all 55 of UEFA’s national associations kick off play this November.

FIFA eWorld Cup breaks viewing records for London finals by 60%

August 15 – The FIFA eWorld Cup, won last weekend at The O2 in London by German Mohammed ‘MoAuba’ Harkous, hammered previous competition viewing records, growing 60% to 47 million views.

Betway punts on PSG’s esports team to drive deeper into gaming markets

July 30 – The PSG brand push into the esports arena has now seen the PSG.LGD partnership secure a reported six-figure shirt sponsorship deal with online bookmaker Betway for its Dota 2 team.

Konami beefs up Man Utd imagery for PES 2020 and launches club edition

July 3 – Japanese videogame maker Konami Digital Entertainment has signed a co-operation agreement with Manchester United for its eFootball PES 2020 game. The announcement follows news that Arsenal have extended their global partnership with Konami for a further three years, taking them through to June 2022.

Fox Sports secures FIFA’s efootball events to drive new Caffeine streaming platform

April 15 – FIFA, whose new sponsorship revenues look as though they are stuck in a China-located trough, is nevertheless finding new revenue streams in efootball and has licensed the broadcast rights to stream the FIFA eWorld Cup and FIFA 19 Global Series events in the US to Fox Sports.

J.League enters esports with 40 clubs to compete on Konami’s PES platform

March 4 – Japan’s J.League is the latest big league to announce it is entering the competitive esports arena with it clubs lined up to play in tournament on Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) game. Other leagues have generally opted for the EA Sports FIFA 19 platform.

Esports betting to hit $12.9bn in 2019, revenues to reach $1.38bn in 2021

February 19 – Betting on esports is estimated to grow to a massive $12.9 billion by the end of this year. That is more than double the figure of $5.5 billion in 2016 and puts the esports business firmly in competition with other forms of online betting.
