UEFA plans post-Platini; Infantino wants their $5m FIFA grants for bigger picture

May 3 – UEFA finally acknowledged today it is preparing for life after Michel Platini by tabling an emergency  meeting of its executive committee later this month with a view to choosing an election date in case its French president loses his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the outcome of which will be announced within a week.

May 3 – The CIES Football Observatory has released more details of its ranking of the best players in the Big 5 European leagues for this season. Dortmund’s Mats Hummels leads the list of best centrebacks while Atlético Madrid’s Filipe Luís tops the full back table.

PAOK refuse to play Cup semi-fnal amid calls for deeper clean of Greek football

April 29 – Despite a solution seemingly having been reached between Greek authorities and FIFA to resume the national cup competition and prevent Greece being thrown out of international football, PAOK Salonica owner Ivan Savvidis (pictured) pulled his team out of this week’s semi-final, second leg against Olympiakos Piraeus because his conditions had not been met.

April 29 – Latest financial reports show how the metamorphosis of Paris Saint-Germain’s into the powerhouse of French football has continued off the pitch. In 2015 PSG had a revenue of €484 million, more than the combined total of 14 other clubs in France’s Ligue1.

Croatian police swoop on FA chief and Dinamo Zagreb bosses in corruption probe

April 27 – Croatia’s anti-corruption authorities say they have charged three current and former officials from 17-time champions Dinamo Zagreb with tax evasion and siphoning off profits from player transfers – including a senior Croatian FA official who Insideworldfootball has discovered is a member of a leading FIFA trouble-shooting body.

April 27 – Spain-based ISDE (Institute of Higher Learning in Law and Economics) has launched a masters course in sports management and legal skills that will be run from its Barcelona offices but also linking with the city’s football club FCB Barcelona.

Barcelona unveils Nou Camp Nou designs, securing €200m naming rights sponsor is next step

April 22 – FC Barcelona have unveiled the designs for their revamped home – the Nou Camp Nou – at a ceremony attended by Barca board members, the first-team squad and media representatives. Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu said the new stadium will become “an icon for the city,” though most would argue it already is in global opinion.
