Tapia says Messi and friends will end press boycott while on Argentine team duty

August 17 – Argentine FA President Claudio Tapia has told the press that it won’t just be him speaking to them in future but that the that national team players will return to doing media interviews and end their boycott.

August 3 – Brazil’s highest court the Federal Supreme Court, the STF, is to probe the corruption inquiry targeting CBF president Marco Polo Del Nero and his predecessors José Maria Marin and Ricardo Teixeira. José Hawilla, owner and founder of sports marketing agency Traffic, is also a defendant in the case.

Argentina and Uruguay push joint bid for World Cup 2030

July 31 – Argentina and Uruguay will press forward with their joint-bid to host the 2030 World Cup. They will face stiff competition from Europe and China even though the latter cannot technically jump the gun under FIFA rules.

Copa America 2019 to continue 16-team format with Euro giants to join the party

April 27 – The 2019 Copa America in Brazil will be expanded to 16 teams. South American regional governing body CONMEBOL approved the increased number of countries for their regional championship at their annual congress in Santiago, Chile.

April 7 – The Court of Arbitration CAS has dismissed an appeal lodged by Brazil’s Internacional over Vitoria Da Bahia’s problems with the player’s registration of Victor Ramos. The decision confirms Internacional’s relegation to Brazil’s Serie B.
