May 12 – Manchester United are making a habit of being second. Behind Brighton and Hove Albion, Man Utd are ranked second in an analysis of the amount of minutes played by home-grown players in the Premier League this season.

February 17 – A new statistical model calculating the number of points clubs will have at the end of the season is predicting that the domestic long reigns of Juventus, PSG and Barca/Real Madrid will be over this season.

February 10 – In a city where the lead striker of one of the world’s biggest clubs collects honours for fighting a campaign to maintain free school meals and fight child hunger, the clubs themselves have gorged on the transfer market at world leading levels.

January 28 – A survey of football fans has found that generally they think agents are overpaid, that leagues are too weighted towards so-called big teams, that there are too many national team matches but not too many club games, and that it costs too much to watch whether via pay TV or in stadia.

Pandemic widens gap between rich and poor clubs as player transfers slow, finds CIES report
November 12 – The annual player demographic census by the CIES Football Observatory shows the immediate impact the coronavirus pandemic has had in slowing down the movement of players and “strengthening” the gaps between the elite clubs and league and the rest.
Ronaldo still tops world’s best striker ranking, ahead of Lewandowski and Salah
September 29 – Cristiano Ronaldo, aged 35, tops a ranking of the world’s most effective strikers, followed by Lazio’s Immobile, Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski, Dortmund’s Erling Haland and Liverpool’s Mo Salah.
Premier League players: young, talented and benched
September 22 – The Premier League has the lowest percentage of minutes by players aged 21 or younger in Europe’s Big 5 leagues and the third lowest across the whole of Europe, according to the latest report from the CIES Football Observatory.
Red for danger. Report finds a nation’s homicide rates statistically correlate to card-happy refs
September 11 – Referees in South America are more card-happy than anywhere else in the world, handing out on average 5.83 cards per match. In Asia the refs average 4 cards a match, according to a survey of 87 divisions worldwide.

April 28 – The importance of scoring the first goal is highlighted in a 92-league analysis by the CIES Football Observatory that found the team scoring first generally goes on to win in about 70% of matches.
