June 16 - French telecommunications company Orange has renewed its deal to be the main sponsor of Poland’s national team until 2014, a deal which covers Euro 2012 which they are co-hosting with Ukraine.
The new deal was announced at a special ceremony at Legia Warsaw FC stadium, where members of the Polish national team including coach Franciszek Smudaa and the President of Polish Football Association Grzegorz Lato.
“We support our national team for many years and we want the cooperation between us continued,” said Maciej Witucki, the President of Polish Telecom, who are part of the Orange group.
“So we signed up a contract for the next four years.
“This will ensure our players the best opportunity to prepare for the European Championships, and later to the [2014] World Cup [in Brazil].”
Lato hopes that the new deal – which extends the original agreement signed in February 2009 – will help encourage other companies to back Poland’s team in the build-up to Euro 2012.
“Football in Poland is the number one sport, but without financial support would not be able to develop, we could not achieve many goals,” he said.
“I hope that the renewed contract with Orange, who assisted us for many years, in the sense of a large financial stability we can build a strong team for Euro 2012.
“We expect that not only from sponsors, but most of all from football fans in Poland.”
The Polish FA also announced a new deal with Sportfve giving them their marketing rights in the build-up to Euro 2012.
