March 3 – FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke has lost his patience over 2014 World Cup host Brazil’s lack of cooperation, declaring organisers need “a kick up the backside”.

Valcke has been flying to and from Brazil in an attempt to finally bring about the guarantees FIFA needs but insists there is no plan B and has now fired both barrels at the South American country for failing to abide by its commitments including signing off a deal to allow beer to be sold in stadiums – outlawed in the Brazilian domestic league.

“I don’t understand why things are not moving,” Valcke said.

“The stadiums are not on schedule any longer – and why are a lot of things late?

“The concern is nothing is made or prepared to receive so many people.

“I am sorry to say but things are not working in Brazil.

“We should have received these documents signed by 2007 and we are in 2012.

“You have to push yourself, get a kick up the backside and just deliver this World Cup.”

Valcke said Brazil’s obsession with winning the trophy seemed more of a priority than staging the World Cup for the first time since 1950.

Speaking ahead of the International Football Association Board meeting in Bagshot, England, today he told reporters:  “Our concern is nothing is made or prepared to receive so many people because the world wants to go to Brazil.

“South Africa’s priorities were to organise the World Cup not win it.

“It seems all Brazil wants to do is win it, and that must change.”
