March 22 – Paris St Germain has received record ticket requests in anticipation of their mouth watering Champions League quarter-final tie against Spanish giants Barcelona on April 2.

One million people applied for the 15,000 available tickets for the game at the Parc des Princes, with phone lines jamming after encountering 100 calls per second.

Fans also lined the streets next to the Parc des Princes’ ticket office on Sunday night in hope of obtaining tickets available to the general public.

PSG’s VP in charge of marketing, Frédéric Longuépée, said the demand for tickets was “phenomenal, like a Rolling Stones concert”.

“Our stadium has a capacity of 45,000, and we have 25,000 season-ticket holders, 95 per cent of whom will get a seat for the match. Five thousand places are reserved for UEFA and Barcelona, leaving 15,000 places for… 700,000 to one million requests,” said Longuépée.

With countless Parisians set to be disappointed, many will look to the black market to try and get their hands on the elusive tickets, with some already being sold online for more than €500.

Barcelona has also seen a strong demand for their 1,564 public tickets, with 2,722 requests for 6,610 tickets made before the applications closed last night (Thursday). A further 391 tickets will go to the supporters clubs and 345 tickets to sponsors meaning the Catalan club will easily fill it’s 2,300 quota.
