May 30 – Brazil’s third largest city, Belo Horizonte – the venue where England were famously beaten by the United States in 1950 – have unveiled plans for its free 21,000-capacity fan fest throughout the World Cup.
With concerns over Brazil’s notorious crime, the fest will contain police, transport and health department offices as well as provide traditional Brazilian entertainment.
A dedicated area will also be available for the embassies and consulates of the national teams who will compete in the tournament. If fans experience difficulties during the tournament such as loss or theft of passports, they can resolve their issues there.
Camillo Fraga, Municipal Secretary for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, Belo Horizonte, said: “We have spent a lot of time looking at how we can deliver the best visitor experience.”
Argentina, Chile and Uruguay will be using Minas Gerais and its capital, Belo Horizonte as their training camps ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Belo will be the venue for six matches including a semi-final.
