Venue and schedule released for US debut of Copa Centroamericana

July 18 – Costa Rican fans living in the US will have the opportunity to see their World Cup heroes back in competitive action this September when the Copa Centroamericana kicks off in Washington with the Los Ticos taking on Nicaragua in the opening match.

The Copacentroamericana, the regional champion for UNCAF federtions, will be held in the US for the first time with regional confederation CONCACAF supplying support with the logistics, ticketing and marketing alongside Soccer United Marketing (SUM).

The seven-team tournament will be played as triple-headers on four match days in Washington, Dallas, Houston and Los Angeles. The two groups will play with group position determining which ranking match they go into on the final round. The tournament will be played over 10 days between September 3 and September 13.

The US edition will be the 13th edition of the Copacentroamerica and the first in the US. Costa Rica are the current Central American champions having won the title seven times. Honduras has won three times, while Guatemala and Panama have each won once.

The competition will be a qualifier for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2016 Centennial Cup America. Both to be held in the US.
