September 9 – According to a report by media agency Opendorse, Cristiano Ronaldo could potentially charge €230,366 for one advertising Tweet to his nearly 38 million followers on Twitter.

Ronaldo, one of the world’s highest paid footballers, is the most followed sportsman in the world on social media as we reported last week (http://www.insideworldfootball.com/football-marketing/social-media/17746-ronaldo-tops-world-sport-s-social-media-ranking-barca-and-real-beat-man-utd). The Portuguese superstar could use this power to charge companies large sums of money to endorse their products on his social channels.

Opendorse, a social media agency which specialises in helping brands and athletes to build their digital presence, reckon that Ronaldo is nearly twice as valuable as the second most marketable athlete on Twitter – basketball player LeBron James. James’ value is €125,638 per promotional Tweet.

Other footballers who make the top 10 in the list include Neymar and Gareth Bale.

Brands are increasingly using social as a way of promoting their products and with the following and attention major sports stars such as Ronaldo get they are willing to pay top dollar to get their endorsements.

Ronaldo’s big rival Lionel Messi isn’t on Twitter as of yet so he doesn’t make the list at all. There are rumours that the Argentine will join the social network in the coming months which could lead to another heated battle between the two best players in the World.
