Haringey and Yeovil aim for racism-free re-match

October 29 – Haringey Borough and Yeovil Town say they “want the real winner to be football” when they re-stage an FA Cup match tonight after the original game was abandoned when the team players walked off the pitch because of racial abuse.

The fourth qualifying round match between the two non-league teams was called off  two Saturdays ago when Haringey’s manager took his players off after abuse was aimed at  two of his players.

Yeovil were leading 1-0 through a penalty when the game was halted in the 64th minute. Two men have since been arrested while a Football Association investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“The testing times after the first game have resulted in a strong bond between the two clubs,” said a joint statement. “Irrespective of which team wins on the pitch, we want the real winner to be football.”

“We have been working hard together with the authorities to make sure Tuesday’s game is safe and enjoyable for all, with increased stewarding being one of many additional measures,” added the statement issued by both clubs.
