Napoli’s De Laurentiis threatens to cut player wages by 25% for poor results

November 25 – Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis is reported to be prepared to take the almost unheard-of step of slashing player wages by 25% as a result of the club’s indifferent start to the season.

Reports out of Italy say  Napoli’s players boycotted a training camp organised by the notoriously controversial de Laurentiis following the recent draw with Salzburg in the Champions League.

Napoli are seventh in Serie A and Italian media say de Laurenttis “wants to dock players wages by 25%” as a punishment for their poor form and that he was also considering sacking manager Carlo Ancelotti and letting several key players leave.

Napoli have been  Serie A runners-up in three of the past four seasons but have won just one of their past five league games.
