Giggs pleads not-guilty to charge of assaulting two women

April 26 – Wales men’s team coach Ryan Giggs will miss this summer’s rescheduled Euros after being charged with assaulting two women.

Robert Page, who has deputised for Giggs in the last two international windows, will continue in the role.

Giggs has been charged with causing actual bodily harm to a woman in her 30s and common assault of a woman in her 20s last November 1.

After he was charged Giggs said in a statement: “I have full respect for the due process of law and understand the seriousness of the allegations. I will plead not guilty in court and look forward to clearing my name. I would like to wish Robert Page, the coaching staff, the players and the supporters every success at the Euros this summer.”

Giggs, capped 64 times by Wales before retiring in 2007, became Wales boss in January 2018, helping them qualify for Euro 2020.

He represented Manchester United throughout his entire senior career,  playing 963 matches between 1991 and 2014, winning 13 Premier League titles and the Champions League twice. He served as an interim and assistant coach at Manchester United before he took over the Welsh national side.

Wales open their Euro 2020 campaign against Switzerland in Baku, Azerbaijan on June 12.
