Barcelona sign Camp Nou naming rights and shirt sponsorship with Spotify

March 16 – The Camp Nou, one of the most iconic stadiums in world football, is being renamed as Spotify Camp Nou as part of a landmark multi-million Euro naming rights and sponsorship agreement between Barcelona and the global music streaming platform.

It will be the first time the Camp Nou has carried a sponsor’s name and Spotify will also appear on the shirts of Barca’s men’s and women’s teams for the next four seasons starting on July 1 ahead of the 2022/23 season. Barcelona’s existing shirt sponsorship deal with the Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten is due to expire this summer.

The financial terms of the new deal have not been disclosed but various reports have suggested it could be worth anything between €280 million and €310 million.

The deal cannot come quickly enough for Barca whose debts are estimated to be an eye-watering €1.35 billion, one of the reasons Lionel Messi left the club last year in a shock move to Paris Saint-Germain.

“We are very proud to announce a pioneering alliance like this with a world-renowned organisation like Spotify,” said Barca president Juan Laporta.

“This partnership will allow us to continue to bring the club closer to its fans and make them feel even more part of the Barca family through unique experiences, combining the two activities such as entertainment and football, making it possible for us to connect with new audiences around the world.”

“It is also a union with which we continue to take steps forward in this new era that we have started and which demonstrates once again the innovative character and the constant search of excellence that distinguish Barca and have made it a unique club in the world.”

Alex Norstrom, chief freemium business officer at Spotify, added: “From July our collaboration will offer a global stage to artists, players and fans at the newly-branded Spotify Camp Nou.”
