Cazoo boosts its drive into Europe with first Bundesliga deal at SC Freiburg

April 14 – Online car retailer Cazoo, which has been driving its expansion across Europe through football club marketing, has announced its first sponsorship in the German Bundesliga with SC Freiburg.Cazoo, who launched in Germany in December 2021, will become the club’s main sponsor from the start of the 2022/23 season.

The sponsorship will include the Cazoo logo on the front of the club’s shirt as well as advertising real estate in the Europa-Park stadium, on TV boards, media backdrops and online.

Cazoo’s logo will also appear as the shirt sponsor and advertising partner for all of Freiburg’s second team (U23) matches in the German third tier league and, as co-sponsor of the Freiburg Football School (junior training centre. Cazoo will also be a co-sponsor and sleeve sponsor of SC Freiburg’s Bundesliga women.

Oliver Leki, chief financial, operations and marketing officer of SC Freiburg, said: “The partnership with the Sport-Club should help Cazoo as a dynamic digital company to achieve its communication goals in Germany. For SC Freiburg, the deal is also a confirmation of the club’s positive development in recent years.”

No value or term was given for the sponsorship.

Cazoo has been picking off clubs in Europe’s big leagues to rapidly increase its brand exposure as it launches its business in new markets. Last month Cazoo announced it will become the main sponsor of Ligue 1’s Olympique de Marseille in a multi-year deal that will begin at the start of the 2022/23 season.

In February Cazoo announced a similar deal with LaLiga rivals Real Sociedad and Valencia. Both agreements are said to be multi-year. In the Premier League Cazoo is the shirt sponsor of Everton and Aston Villa but has said that its deal with Everton will end this season and not be renewed, though it will continue with Aston Villa.
