Man City submit £300m plan to expand Etihad Stadium and create entertainment complex

April 18 – Manchester City has submitted a planning application to local authorities that will expand the Etihad Stadium to over 60,000 capacity and create a year-round entertainment and leisure destination around the stadium.

The costs of the development are estimated at more than £300 million and will take up to three years to complete. The club said that 2,600 jobs will be prioritised for people from Greater Manchester.

Ground development will focus around an expanded North Stand with one larger, single upper tier above the existing lower tier. Above the upper tier, a sky bar with views overlooking the pitch will be introduced, together with a stadium roof walk experience.

Outside the stadium but on the Manchester City Campus footprint, a covered City Square fan zone, with capacity for 3,000 people and a wide variety of food and drink outlets, a new club shop, museum and a 400-bed hotel are alsoproposed.

The clubs said workspace for use by start-up and medium-sized organisations looking to co-locate and collaborate with the club, City Football Group and Etihad Campus partners also features in the planning submission.

“As with all Club developments, ensuring our local community benefit is a key priority and we believe these proposals will deliver long-term economic and social opportunities, building on the regeneration work delivered in East Manchesterby City Football Group since 2008.”

The planning submission follows a public consultation process held between Tuesday 28th February and 26th March, where fans and the local community could feed back on concepts and designs.

The club said it “is delighted to confirm that fans were in favour of the concepts and proposals presented.”
