Out of Toon. Amazon’s Newcastle doc reveals adidas as new kit partner

August 22 – Newcastle United are set to replace sportswear manufacturer Castore with leisurewear giant and former long-term sponsor Adidas in a five-year deal reportedly worth hundreds of millions of pounds.

The club are set to formally announce the new partnership with adidas after an Amazon prime documentary let slip the proposed change and left their deal with Castore all but finished.

The news was leaked via Amazon Prime’s new docuseries ‘We are Newcastle United’ which closely follows the behind-the-scenes activity of the club. Amazon Prime accidentally released an episode a week early, which showed Newcastle United executives in Germany on a visit to Adidas Headquarters.

The viral clip was narrated by Newcastle United icon and record goal scorer Alan Shearer, who said the deal “could be worth hundreds of millions of pounds”.

The episode exposing the pending partnership have since been removed from the streaming platform, but are expected to return for public viewing at their scheduled release date this Friday.

After the news was leaked, Adidas UK posted a tweet referencing the pending deal on Saturday, which was shared by the club and included eyes and popcorn emojis.

Fans will have to wait until the start of next season before they see the return of Adidas to Tyneside as there is still a season to run on the Castore deal.

The Magpies’ attention is currently on next weekend’s Premier League fixture against Liverpool at St James’s Park. Last weekend they had a narrow loss away to Manchester City.
