Ratcliffe restructures Man Utd offer to woo Glazers as Jassim tops out at £6bn

September 27 – British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reported to be preparing a “restructured” offer to speed up the takeover process at Manchester United as a deal to buy the iconic club drags on.

According to Bloomberg, Ratcliffe is keen to break the deadlock in the long-running takeover saga.

A potential sale process begun by the Glazer family has gone on for almost a year and Ratcliffe, a lifelong fan, is one of the publicly declared interested parties.

His apparent restructured bid comes five months after he made what was referred to as his final offer. Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani is the only other publicly declared prospective purchaser.

Sheikh Jassim has made a series of bids for the club that culminated in the lodging of a fifth and final offer in June of no more than £6 billion.

The length of the process is reportedly causing doubt regarding the Glazers’ actual intent to sell. The more the unpopular American owners mull over formal approaches, the less faith United fans will have that a deal will be reached, impacting the club both on and off the pitch.
