Iberdrola agrees 3-year sponsorship of Portuguese women’s game

April 11 – Spain-based energy company Iberdrola has agreed a three-year sponsorship with the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) covering the women’s game in Portugal.

This partnership covers all senior women’s football initiatives, including the Portuguese national team, Liga BPI, Portuguese Cup, League Cup, and Super Cup.

Fernando Gomes, president of FPF: “Women’s football growth is our daily work. Something we do best together with partners such as Iberdrola – a world-renowned brand. We are confident that these common interests will bring even more energy to our National Team and our competitions.”

Iberdrola has made a commitment to gender equality a key plank of its CSR activity with one visible outcome being the promotion of women’s sport in international markets.

Iberdrola already sponsors several women’s competitions and national association including deals in Spain, Scotland and Brazil. No value was given for the Portuguese sponsorship

“In this way, Iberdrola contributes to boosting the success of women’s sport, promoting equal opportunities and promoting healthy habits in society,” said a company press statement.

“With this commitment, Iberdrola aims to promote gender equality in Portugal, fostering the growth and success of women’s sport. We want to contribute to the visibility, prominence and creation of new female references in society, favouring the creation of conditions that promote inclusion and equal opportunities,” said David Rivera, country manager of Iberdrola Portugal.

The announcement was made during the half time interval of the Portugal-Bosnia and Herzegovina Euro 2025 qualifier which Portugal won 3-0.

“With more and more players, more clubs, more competitions, it is important to highlight that those investing in women’s football are also growing in number and size. We are confident that this is the way forward and that we will dignify Iberdrola’s commitment,” said Gomes.
