Home to FC Sion, the stadium was opened in 1968, replacing Sion’s old Parc des Sports. It was redeveloped over the late eighties and early nineties and has undergone refurbishments in recent years.
Located near the Italian and French borders, Sion’s landmarks include
two hilltop fortifications: the Basilique de Valère and Tourbillon Castle. With the first local settlements dated at around 6200 BC, Sion is also one of Europe’s most significant prehistoric sites.

FC Sion held the record of having never lost a Swiss Cup final, until a defeat by Basel at the
14th time of asking in 2017. André Filippini – club president from 1971 to 1977, was also a bobsledder who won a bronze medal for Switzerland in the four-man event at the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo.
Stade de Tourbillon in Sion, Switzerland, has hosted several notable football matches and has been the venue for international fixtures, including friendly matches involving the Swiss men’s national team, such as a 4–0 victory over San Marino in 2019 during UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying . Additionally, the stadium hosted the 2013 Valais Cup, a pre-season tournament featuring top European clubs like Porto, AS Saint-Étienne, VfL Wolfsburg, Olympique de Marseille, and FC Sion. Porto emerged as the champion of the tournament
