August 26 – A Canadian fund is interested in buying Bulgarian football club Beroe Stara Zagora, the local Mayor has claimed.
Zhivko Todorov, Mayor of Stara Zagora, has revealed he held talks with the group, who he has not named.
Todorov said: “They requested a meeting with me. I wasn’t able to attend because I was engaged with other activities, but the Deputy Mayor, Radostin Tanev, was at that meeting with the Canadian fund in question.
“They presented their vision, but we replied that the club has an owner and is not a municipal property. Only the facilities the club uses are municipal.
“They said they would look for Beroe’s owner to have a conversation. They were interested in whether they would have our support if they eventually acquired ownership.”
Beroe is currently owned by the American management agency CRD Sport, which acquired 100% of the Bulgarian club’s shares in June 2023.
Todorov said: “Just as with this fund, and with anyone else who wants to take over Beroe with clear financing and good intentions – we as an administration will be open. This is the real information – they sought us out, but we cannot be responsible for shares or the transfer of ownership.”
