September 18 – Bulgaria’s Spartak Varna have received a lifeline from the local council in the form of a grant of 550,000 leva (€275,000) which they will use to pay off tax debt.
The grant was approved by a vote at the last meeting of the Municipal Council – Varna. The funds will be used to repay the Bulgarian elite club’s debts to the National Revenue Agency.
A statement from the club read: “After much effort by the club’s management and administration, the Municipal Council – Varna today approved the allocation of 550,000 leva to cover FC Spartak Varna’s obligations to the National Revenue Agency.
“This is a real breath of fresh air for the club and the first serious step on the path to our stabilisation and release.
“This step also demonstrates our commitment to fulfilling our obligations – we are completing this task and continuing with the rest of the club’s stabilisation process along the way.
“We believe that this will inspire even more trust and confidence in our partners, employees, coaches, players, and – last but not least – the fans. We thank every municipal councillor who realises the importance of this vote and supports the blue-white cause.”
