Women’s Leagues Forum adds Canada’s Northern Super league and Denmark’s A-Liga to membership

November 12 – Canada’s Northern Super League and Denmark’s A-Liga have joined the fast growing Women’s Leagues Forum.

Under the umbrella of the World Leagues Forum which has men’s leagues members from 45 countries, the Women’s Leagues Forum adds a further 16 bodies responsible for their women’s national football league.

The secretary to the board of the Women’s Leagues Forum, Moya Dodd, said: “It’s exciting to have the NSL and the A-Liga join our shared efforts to grow professionalism, advocate for the interests of national leagues, and give players the best stage to play on.

“National leagues are the growth engine of our game, creating career opportunities for players, regular matches for sponsors and broadcasters, and building a new fan culture.

Canada’s six-team Northern Super League is in its first season, having attracted significant corporate partnerships and investment, broadcast distribution and boasting an average attendance of 4,000 per game.

“Joining the Women’s Leagues Forum is another step forward in connecting Canada’s professional women’s league to the global game,” said founder Diane Matheson.

“The Northern Super League was built to provide Canadian players a place to compete at the highest level at home and to help accelerate the growth of women’s football everywhere.”

Denmark’s long-standing A-Liga is now structured as an independent league and run by the Ligaforbundet.

“The Danish League Association (Ligaforbundet’s) inclusion in the Women’s Leagues Forum underscores our firm belief that the future of women’s football lies in global collaboration,” said Ligaforbundet CEO, Marie Greve. “We see ourselves as a development partner, bringing a long tradition of talent development into the global community. We are convinced that by standing united, we can accelerate the growth of women’s football everywhere and elevate the game.”
