AFC announces major developments ahead of Women’s Asian Cup 2026

November 20 – With just over 100 days until kick-off at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has unveiled two major developments that set the tone for a landmark edition of the tournament.

AFC has unveiled its official match ball ‘Wavemaker’ and appointed Anytime Fitness, the American health and fitness club franchise, as an Official Regional Partner.

The tournament, which runs from March 1 to 21, is expected to draw record crowds and ‘unprecedented’ global attention as the women’s game continues its rapid rise across Asia – having hosted a record-breaking World Cup in 2023.

Kelme’s Wavemaker ball takes its cues from Australia’s coastline, using wave-inspired patterns and a coral red-ocean blue palette designed for visibility in all conditions. The look is meant to reflect the “energy, resilience and collective strength” driving the women’s game.

AFC General Secretary Datuk Seri Windsor John hailed the launch, saying Kelme’s track record across AFC competitions made the partnership a natural fit. “We are pleased to partner with them again as we look to deliver our greatest women’s national team competition in history,” he said.

Kelme Sports Chairman Ke Yongxiang described the ball as both a technical achievement and a tribute to the athletes who will use it: “It represents not only precision and reliability in every flight, but also the spirit of strength that drives every female footballer to surge forward.”

Patrick Murphy, CEO of Asia Football Group, added that the ball stands as a symbol of empowerment: “The Wavemaker is more than just an important piece of equipment – it’s the unbreakable spirit that drives the game forward.”

Alongside the match ball reveal, the AFC announced Anytime Fitness as an Official Regional Partner of the 2026 tournament.

A major feature of the partnership is Anytime Fitness’ integration into the Official AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Volunteer Programme, which will now be branded “Powered by Anytime Fitness.”

The company says its aim is to “celebrate and support the thousands of volunteers who play an essential role in delivering the competition, giving them recognition and confidence as ambassadors for both football and wellness”. The fitness brand will also help recruit centre circle banner bearers for match days, with its branding – of course – woven into their uniforms.

“Both the AFC and Anytime Fitness share common outcomes in inspiring and engaging with the community,” Windsor John said. “Our passionate volunteers have a crucial role, and we look forward to working with like-minded organisations to bring our ambitions to life.”

Caitlin Bancroft, Group Chief Brand & Marketing Officer at Anytime Fitness, said the partnership aligns perfectly with the brand’s mission: “It’s incredibly exciting to have this world-class tournament on home soil… We are proud to champion not only the athletes and teams, but also the volunteers whose passion fuels every moment.”

Murphy added that Anytime Fitness’ national reach makes it a “powerful partner” in building a meaningful legacy for football across the region.

With the clock ticking down and momentum building, the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026 is shaping up as a defining moment – not just for Asian football, but for the broader movement driving women’s sport forward.
