Wrexham set sights on Premier League after Apollo investment

December 9 – In 2021, when Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney rolled into the city of Wrexham, no one could’ve predicted what would happen next but in pure Hollywood fashion, a transformation occurred.

Three promotions on the bounce, Championship football, a global fanbase that stretches far beyond North Wales, and a Netflix show that has broken all kinds of records and stereotypes.

Now the movie star duo have brought in another heavyweight partner, selling a minority stake to Apollo Sports Capital.

“From day one, we wanted to build a sustainable future for Wrexham Association Football Club,” their joint statement reads. “And to do it with a little heart and humour.”

Wrexham are currently sitting 12th in the Championship, just out of the play-off positions, but with lots of time to make a run at promotion. With the injection of capital, the club is moving full steam ahead with the redevelopment of the SToK Cae Ras Stadium.

“The dream has always been to take this club to the Premier League while staying true to the town,” they say. “Growth like that takes world-class partners who share our vision and ambition, and Apollo absolutely does.”

Apollo’s arrival follows the Allyn family’s minority stake last year, strengthening a board that already includes Kaleen Allyn, Reynolds, McElhenney, Humphrey Ker, and Shaun Harvey.

“We have known Al Tylis, the CEO of Apollo Sports Capital, for many years and are thrilled to now have ASC join the Wrexham family as we take the next step forward together.”

Apollo partner Lee Solomon said: “Wrexham is on an incredible journey, and we are thrilled to be a part of it and to support the club, the Wrexham community, and Rob and Ryan.”
