Sporting San Miguelito was founded in 1989 as a youth academy but has grown to now compete in Panama’s top league, the Liga Panamena de Futbol, making their debut in the 1997 season. The club is based in the San Miguelito district of Panama Province.
This is the club’s first qualification for the Concacaf Champions Cup which was achieved by defeating local rivals CD Plaza Amador 4-2 on aggregate in the Concacaf Central American play-in series last October, winning the second leg 3-2 at Estadio Rommel Fernández.
Head coach Cesar Aguilar took charge in November 2024 with a focus on improving as aspects of the team’s professional performance, particularly in high-stakes international matches and their approach to games.
Aguilar’s team is made up predominantly with Panamanian players.
Kevin Mosquera has been a stand-out in goal, protected by a young defensive line-up of Alexis Cedeño (20), Omar Alba (21), Danielo Hoyos (21), and Jhizard Munoz (21).
In midfeld Martin Ruiz starred in the play-in win. Left midfielder Ángel Valencia gets forward and scores goals while new signing Ramses de Leon has been brought in to lead the line.
