February 2 – The upcoming BET.bg Bulgarian Super Cup clash between Ludogorets Razgrad and Levski Sofia on February 3 will be the first time in the Bulgarian game that the head referee will wear a specialised body camera, offering fans a unique, first-person perspective of the action on the pitch.
Bulgaria becomes one of the few European nations to use body cams in an official match. The English Premier League, German Bundesliga, Italian Serie A, and French Ligue 1, all of which have successfully integrated the system to enhance the viewing experience.
The initiative, led by the Bulgarian Professional Football League (BPFL) and the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU), aims to make football more transparent and engaging for supporters.
Through a partnership with sports tech leader Riedel, live footage from the referee’s camera will be integrated into the television broadcast.
After the final whistle, exclusive ‘behind-the-scenes’ footage of key moments and crucial decisions will be released to the public.
“The project is the result of close collaboration between BFU President Georgi Ivanov, BPFL President Atanas Karaivanov, and the Chairman of the Refereeing Committee, Stanislav Todorov. Their shared commitment to world-class practices is driving the modernisation of Bulgarian football, starting with one of the most prestigious matches of the year,” the BPFL said.
