Wasserman agency changes name to ‘The Team’ as it looks to shake off Epstein links

March 11 – International player agency Wasserman, has changed its name to ‘The Team’ amid the continuing fallout surrounding founder Casey Wasserman and his appearance in US government files related to Jeffrey Epstein.

The company represents more than 1,300 soccer players worldwide and recently expanded its soccer footprint with the acquisition of Unik Sports Management, a women’s soccer agency.

A statement on the agency’s new website said: “As of today, Wasserman is rebranding as THE·TEAM and you can now find us at the.team.

“For 24 years, this company has been shaped by our work, our people, and our unifying belief in the power of sports, music, and entertainment. That philosophy remains the foundation of who we are – and where we are going. We go forward as we always have: Together.

“We remain completely focused on serving our clients with the same professionalism that has always been our standard.”

The rebrand comes after Wasserman announced last month he would sell the agency after it emerged that he flew on convicted pedophile Epstein’s private plane and exchanged flirtatious emails with Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year jail sentence for the sex trafficking of minors, in 2003.

Wasserman has denied having a personal or business relationship with Epstein. He has previously apologised for his association with Maxwell, saying their relationship came before her or Epstein’s crimes were revealed.

Several high-profile clients moved to distance themselves from the firm as scrutiny intensified, most notably US women’s soccer legend Abby Wambach, who immediately left the agency, citing Wasserman’s involvement with Epstein.

The fallout also prompted calls for Wasserman’s resignation as chair of the organizing committee for the LA28 Olympic Games.

Wasserman will continue in that role, with the committee stating last month: “We found Mr. Wasserman’s relationship with Epstein and Maxwell did not go beyond what has already been publicly documented.”
