WLA holds third meeting of its Central American chapter

May 7 – The fast growing World Leagues Association (WLA) held its 3rd Central American Leagues Meeting this week in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, hosted by Liga Hondubet.

Delegates from the national professional leagues of Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua, and El Salvador, were present alongside participants from Puerto Rico and Suriname, as well as CONCACAF and FIFA representatives.

The three-day programme combined networking activities, working sessions, and strategic discussions. Topics covered included refereeing innovation (including VAR and remote broadcast solutions), data and performance ecosystems, league development pathways, and opportunities to strengthen cooperation between leagues.

Key themes impacting the region, such as infrastructures, financial and logistical challenges were discussed, said the WLA.

Javier Tebas, president of Spain’s LaLiga and Board member of the World Leagues Association, addressed participants “to encourage their efforts in strengthening league structures and drive the development of professional football”.

“The meeting reaffirmed the collective ambition of Central American national leagues to elevate standards and enhance competitiveness across the region. The open dialogue and sharing of expertise highlighted the importance of collaboration in building synergies between leagues,” said the WLA.
