Concacaf programmes Toluca-Tigres Champions Cup final to kick off at 5pm

May 8 – The Champions Cup final between Toluca and Tigres UANL will be a 5pm kick off on May 30, following a growing trend amongst confederations to schedule major finals earlier in the day rather than at the more traditional evening times of around 8pm.

The advantage of earlier scheduling is that it makes post-match travel easier and safer for fans, they arrive earlier at the stadium and spend more time and money within them stadium footprint, and the host city has the economic benefit of a late evening influx of fans to bars and restaurants.

The 5pm local kick-off puts the match into primetime viewing in North America.

Toluca FC will host the final at their Estadio Nemesio Díez in the single leg final by virtue of their higher Concacaf club ranking, calculated on performances in the Champions Cup this season. Toluca FC top the ranking with 12pts, and +11 goal difference, against Tigres’ 12pts and +3 goal difference.

The winner will secure one of Concacaf’s four qualification for the next edition of the Club World Cup in 2029, as well as the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2026.

2025 Champions Cup winners Cruz Azul have also qualified for the 2029 Club World Cup.

Toluca qualified for the final last night with an impressive 4-0 dismantling of LAFC after having been a goal down after the first leg. Tigres had a less spectacular 1-0 home win against a battling Nashville to win their semi-final series 2-0 on aggregate.

Broadcast partners for the final are: FOX Sports (USA – English), TelevisaUnivision (USA – Spanish), FOX Mexico (Mexico), OneSoccer (Canada), ESPN | Disney+ (Central America, Caribbean, and South America), and the Concacaf Official Platforms for all other territories (subject to territory restrictions).
