May 6 – Tottenham Hotspur are getting closer to a deal to play home their Premier League games at Wembley, the national stadium, in the 2017-18 season as they complete building work on a new ground.
The club, who have qualified for next season’s Champions League, are constructing a £400 million 61,000-seater stadium next to their existing north London home and aim to move in before the start of the 2018-19 season.
Tottenham will play the final season at their iconic White Hart Lane ground from August and the FA could raise around £15 million from Wembley staging a Premier League club’s home fixtures.
“We’re a long way down the path on reaching an agreement,” said English FA chairman Greg Dyke. Tottenham’s north-London rivals Arsenal hosted Champions League games at Wembley in 1998-99 and 1999-2000.
