FIFA confirms Arab Cup as Qatar 2022 warm-up event

November 25 – FIFA has confirmed that the Arab Cup tournament, announced in June, will act as the official warm-up for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The Arab Cup will be played in December next year, featuring 22 nations from Africa and Asia.

Liverpool and Olympique Lyonnais stars dominate FIFA’s Best award nominations

November 25 – FIFA has revealed the candidates shortlisted for seven of the individual trophies that will be presented at its Best Football Awards ceremony on December 17. Two expert panels – one for men and one for women’s football, have selected the candidates for each category.

November 25 – South American champions Flamengo secured a valuable 1-1 draw on the road against Argentina’s Racing Club in the last 16 of the Copa Libertadores on a good first night for Brazilian clubs in the competition’s knockout phase.

November 25 – On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, FIFA has joined forces with the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Commission and the European Parliament Sports Group to raise awareness of domestic violence.

Laporta indicates he is ready to take lead at Barcelona again

November 25 – Joan Laporta, who led Barcelona between 2003 and 2010, is set to announce that he will run for a second term as club president in succession to the much-maligned Josep Maria Bartomeu, who resigned last month under pressure from players, supporters and fellow board members.

Spurs slump to £67m loss as Levy warns of another £150m if stadium stays shut

November 24 – Tottenham Hotspur’s reign at the top of the Premier League profits table is over, with chairman Daniel Levy warning that a further £150 million of revenue could be lost irrecoverably in the present financial year if the club’s shiny new stadium remains closed to fans.
