October 10 – CONCACAF has announced it will host a two-day women’s football seminar October 25-26, in Philadelphia, coinciding with the semi-finals and final of the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship.

October 10 – The New York Red Bulls have been granted a hearing with the Supreme Court of New Jersey to settle its tax dispute with the Town of Harrison. The club is seeking reimbursement for tax paid on its Red Bull Arena, claiming exemption is statutorily permitted.

October 8 – FIFA vice-president Jeffrey Webb, world football’s most influential powerbroker in the global bid to stamp out racism, has issued another hard-hitting indictment of progress – or lack of it – and says a major challenge lies ahead to make sure the 2018 World Cup in Russia is void of discrimination.

October 8 – One of North America’s leading sports industry executives has questioned the wisdom of European clubs playing lucrative fixtures in the United States, whether pre-season or, as is now being suggested once again, competitive Premier League games.
October 5 – MLS franchises continue to create heat and rumour with Red Bulls saying that any offer of $300 million for the franchise would be agreed and completed within 48 hours, while news of Chivas USA’s sale expected in the next couple of weeks has thrown up controversial Cardiff City owner, Vincent Tan,, as a potential buyer.

October 3 – San Antonio’s MLS expansion bid campaign has slipped under the media radar in recent weeks. Las Vegas’ clamor for city backing and Sacramento’s joy at their on-field success and off-field visits from MLS reps have kept the formerly favored San Antonio bid relatively underrepresented. Perhaps unjustly as the bid appears to tick the appropriate boxes.

October 1 – The MLS Players Union has released its annual review of salaries for each of the league’s players. The list reveals a league record in the form of Kaka’s impending $7.17 million to play for the new MLS team Orlando City SC, usurping David Beckham’s previous high salary mark by a rough half million.

September 29 – After a longer than anticipated wait, the Centennial Cup America has been officially added to the 2016 FIFA events calendar. The dates mean that the oldest international cup competition in the world will overlap with UEFA’s revamped 24-team Euro 2016 championships for 16 days.

September 29 – With new MLS teams cropping up around the US, and existing teams rejuvenating, the creation and expansion of stadiums has been in the forefront of minds and proposals all round country. Here is an update on the current happenings.

September 24 – U.S. Soccer is standing by its decision to allow women’s national team goalkeeper Hope Solo to continue to play in the period up to her November 4 trial on domestic violence charges. Nike have also said they will stick by the player.

September 22 – The upcoming MLS expansion team NYC FC has targeted a new site for its soccer-specific stadium in the parking lot south of the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens. Manchester City owned NYC FC will play its inaugural season, 2015, inside The Yankee Stadium – a baseball arena owned by the New York Yankees, who also own a fraction of NYC FC.
September 22 – The MLS has unveiled a new logo ahead of its twentieth season, to go along with its rebranding and rejuvenated aspirations to become a leading league in world soccer. Discarding the old boot and ball in black and white, the league has gone for the classic crest template normally seen as club logos.
September 22 – When Fort Lauderdale Strikers, a North American Soccer League (NASL) club, announced on its website that a major announcement was to be made on September 19, rumors started flying that David Beckham, whose group had suggested they had some announcements to make shortly too, may have had a change in strategy. However, the truth is that three Brazilians are the ones rocking this boat.

September 17 – Carlos Treviño, a Mexican politician, who was Secretary of Social Development in Querétaro from 2006-2009, has successfully damaged his hopes as a spokesperson for the people by making racist comments about Ronaldinho via Twitter. Feeling aggrieved about sitting in traffic that was caused by the hysteria surrounding Ronaldinho’s presentation to the fans at his new Mexican club, Quarétero, he expressed his malcontent by referring to Ronaldinho as an ape.

September 17 – The MLS is making progress with the sale of Chivas USA, but likely at the expense of the team’s absence in the 2015 season. The parties involved have been kept discrete, but it is thought that a combination of a wealthy American executive and a Mexican businessman will form the ownership structure of the LA-based club.
